Position Description:

Role Summary:
This position brainstorms, writes, and transforms ideas into persuasive messaging through various content types to including emails, print collateral, website content, social media, blogs, white papers, press releases, brochures, publications, product descriptions, advertisements, videos, and other forms of marketing.  Copyedits content written by self and other members of the team for spelling, grammar, and consistency, paying close attention to detail to ensure accuracy, language, and brand consistency of all messaging.  Utilizes creativity and data-driven insights to optimize copy and improve impact and reach of written content and increase engagement by readers.  Works with scientists, engineers and other technical personnel as well as marketing and sales personnel to clarify document contents. Assists MOCON’s Industrial Analyzer product line (IAP) with marketing activities which may include website maintenance, direct mailing, document design, public relations, printing, customer events, tradeshows and marketing collateral. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Works with the IAP Director of Sales & Marketing, and collaborates with the MOCON marketing team, to produce content such as: white papers, power points, webinars, social media posts, video scripts and other technical articles to be read by a variety of audiences
  • Interacts with scientists, engineers, sales and marketing personnel to gather data to develop materials
  • Reviews existing material for the purpose of updating and republishing
  • Organizes material and complete writing assignment according to set standards regarding order, clarity, conciseness, style, and terminology
  • Researches industry related topics including technology and competitors
  • Develops or maintains templates for documents
  • Maintains records and files of work and revisions 
  • Assists in coordinating literature used for product promotion
  • Supports Sales and other IAP Managers by learning and understanding the equipment sold so that they can respond appropriately to sales and marketing’s requests
  • Assists in the development of departmental projects and the coordination of communications in all channels, including print, audio/video, digital, tradeshows, seminars and webinars
  • Attends tradeshows, seminars, and conferences to understand how the marketing material is utilized.
  • Performs other duties as determined by leadership

Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a scientific field or Marketing with a Major/Minor or emphasis in English
  • Or 3-5 years of equivalent work experience in a related field
  • Ability to grasp an understanding of the science and technology behind MOCON’s instruments
  • Proven writing and editing skills with an ability to write technical subjects for a variety of audiences
  • Superior command of the English language including rules, usage and style
  • Ability to learn quickly
  • Ability to show ideas visually through graphics
  • Proficient computer skills, especially Microsoft and Adobe applications
  • Patience in problem-solving and trouble shooting
  • Strong analytical, planning, organizational, and time management skills
  • Strong research skills including gathering and analyzing data from multiple sources to develop materials with the strength to insist on getting the information needed from the subject matter experts
  • Superb interpersonal communication skills, particularly where technical information must be conveyed in a clear way to readers who do not possess the same level of technical knowledge.

  • Experience with a variety of writing styles: technical, creative, web
  • Experience in document layout and page design helpful
  • Experience with Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign helpful
  • Knowledge/ability to take technical photos helpful
